Our classic patios seem more precious than ever. It’s rarer now for new establishments to open without one.
The pandemic threw Houston’s patio scene into overdrive. Some trade smartly on their surrounding architecture or landscape, while other compounds are born out of very little, fueled by ingenuity and need. Maybe they generate a distinct, appealing vibe or wrap their guests in enchanting visuals. They may offer transporting views, or enfolding greenery, or a lively sense of connection with the city and our fellow citizens. What lifts a patio into the top tier? The remarkable ones create their own sense of place. It is the great patios that we salute here. There are great patios, good patios and perfectly acceptable patios. There is no such thing as a bad restaurant patio, as the past few years have taught us.
